A man from Cinnaminson, who was 80 years old, was driving a car with a 90-year-old woman riding along as a passenger. She was from Cherry Hill. Tragically, the pair were involved in a car accident, and the elderly woman passed away.
According to reports out of New Jersey, the accident happened in Margate at about 12:07 p.m., or just after noon. The man was guiding his car down Jerome Avenue, heading south. He needed to turn onto Amherst Avenue, which is a left turn from Jerome.
As the man navigated the turn, a vehicle that was coming north down Jerome Avenue slammed into the side of the car. That second vehicle was heading for the Margate toll plaza at the time of the crash, per the local police.
Emergency crews responded and rushed to woman to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. While the police are withholding some information such as the woman’s name, they did confirm that she passed away from her injuries at the medical center.
To determine what happened and who was at fault in the accident, in which both drivers survived, the Margate City Police are carrying out an investigation. They are being assisted in that effort by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigations Unit.
Accidents can take lives at any age, and they do so daily, but the elderly do face some advanced risks due to their age and sometimes fragile condition. If you ever lose a loved one in an accident or suffer serious injuries yourself, you may have a legal right to financial compensation.
